Educational Breakfast

Please join Labor's Community Agency for a most informative presentation by Ms. Carol Hedges, Senior Fiscal Analyst, Colorado Fiscal Policy Institute.  Ms. Hedges is a recognized expert on the effects of Colorado’s TABOR amendment.  Her current research explores spending and taxation in Colorado in light of fairness, efficiency and adequacy.  Her most recent report in entitled, Aiming for the Middle, Benchmarks for Colorado’s Future.  Carol is the primary author of the Bell Policy Center publication, Ten Years of TABOR: A Study of Colorado’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights.  Discussion will be concerning three financial measures that will appear on the November ballot and the effects it will carry on Colorado.

·         Proposition 101: Which eliminates state and local taxes on rental cars and car leases; limits auto registration, license and title charges to $10 per vehicle per year; sets the state income tax rate at 4.5%, with decreases over time; and restricts telecom surcharges.

·         Amendment 60: Aims to cut mill levies, with the state making up the shortfall in school funding, and allows voters to roll back previous approvals that allowed governments to retain more tax revenues.

·         Amendment 61: Requires local governments to get voter approval to borrow, requires debt to be repaid within 10 years, and prohibits borrowing by the state government.

Food Pantry

Labor's Community Agency recently started a small food pantry at our location. Due to the severe changes in the economy and continuing job loss, there has been an unexpected usage of the program. We would appreciate donations of non-perishable food items, diapers, formula, etc., so that we are able to continue to help our union members, their families, and the community during their time of crisis or need. Please bring your donations to the above address or if you need items to be picked up, you may call us at 303-744-6169.

Vehicle Donation Program

Labor's Community Agency (LCA) has partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado to accept your used vehicle as a donation if you live in the Denver metro area, Colorado Springs, or Pueblo.  You can deduct the fair market value if you itemize on your tax form.  When you donate a vehicle through LCA, the Agency receives a percentage of the gross sale of the vehicle.  The percentage received will help LCA continue the programs and services for our families in crisis and need.  In addition, you will be helping Big Brothers Big Sisters with mentoring programs for children in need of a consistent, caring friend.

Cell Phone Recycling ProgramCell Phone Recycling Program

Cell Phone Drop Off

Are your old cell phones taking over your home?

Want to dispose of them in a safe manner?

Then drop them off at Labor's Community Agency!

Labor's Community Agency is currently the only Agency in the state of Colorado accepting your old cell phones for recycling.

Donating your phone to Labor's Community Agency helps us further our mission by helping us raise funds so we can continue to serve the community. As Labor's Community Agency is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, you may be eligible for a tax deduction for your in-kind donation.

Donating your mobile phone so it can be recycled is important, because mobile phones contain toxic elements like Mercury, Cadmium, Lead, and other poisonous materials that shouldn't be thrown into a landfill. Reuse is the best form of recycling, and this is our focus. If your phone cannot be reused, it will be recycled for its metals and plastics in accordance with federal and local environmental standards.

You may drop off your cell phones at Labor's Community Agency, 7510 West Mississippi Avenue, Suite #230, or call (303) 744--6169 and we will be happy to pick them up. (Any type of cell phone, regardless of age or condition, is accepted. If available, please include the battery.)
